Vernon speaks at Progress event about the centre ground
March 3, 2012.
Last night Vernon was honoured to be invited to speak at one of Progress' regional series forums at Loxley House in Nottingham. He formed part of the panel at the event, entitled "Britain 2015: is there a new centre ground and how does Labour capture it?", along with Caroline Badley, Councillor Florence Nosegbe, Lambeth Council’s cabinet member for Culture, Sport and the 2012 Olympic Games, and former Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Jacqui Smith.

At the event, Jacqui Smith spoke of the importance of the centre ground to the Labour Party: "the centre-ground isn't just where we must be to win but it's the best expression of our values", whilst Vernon noted how it has moved in recent years: "the centre-ground has moved left on the economy & right on crime & immigration & that is the challenge for us".
