Nottinghamshire County Council Cuts

February 16, 2012.

The cuts which the County Council are making are a disgrace. I recently sent this letter to the Leader of the County Council following contact by a constituent. This has been widely discussed on Radio Nottingham and is of concern to many.

Cllr Kay Cutts

Nottinghamshire County Council

County Hall

West Bridgford

16 February, 2012

Dear Kay

Hitting vulnerable adults with your cuts in services

I have been contacted by Mrs Collins of Burton Joyce regarding the care that her disabled son, Jonathan Hailwood, receives from the County Council.

Jonathan is a disabled, vulnerable adult and lives in a care home in Gedling.  He currently receives four days care at Ley Street in Netherfield.  Jonathan and his mum agree that this is a valuable part of his life, offering stability, routine, companionship and care.  However, following your council’s decision to undertake ‘Day Service Modernisation’ the attached letter states that this care will be cut to a maximum of two days per week.

Please could you reconsider this dreadful and damaging decision?  This is clearly cutting services to vulnerable adults, something you assured us would not happen under your leadership.

Yours sincerely

Vernon Coaker MP
