Letter to County Council Cabinet regarding the future of Gedling

Members of Nottinghamshire

County Council Cabinet

04 March 2011

Dear Cabinet Member

I am writing to you regarding the future of Gedling School.

I must re-iterate my opposition to the possible closure of the school.  The school plays a vital part in the local community and provides a genuine alternative for parents and students.  I hope that a new partnership arrangement, if this is what the governors decide to pursue, will be supported by the County Council.

As you will appreciate, the governors may take a route which places the final decision with the Secretary of State.  I have myself met with Michael Gove to discuss this and to stress to him my own commitment to keeping the Gedling School open on its current site.  I hope the members of the Cabinet at County Hall would also support this.

We all need to work together to ensure that the local community, and the students both present and future, are supported.

Yours sincerely

Vernon Coaker MP
